ARRIVAL JOHANNESBURGArrival to Johannesburg 10:25 and transfer to our hotel. Sightseeing and a visit to the new and moving Apartheid Museum. Diner at local restaurant.
JOHANNESBURG - DRAKENSBERG (400 KM)Early start. We leave the metropolis and the industry by good and fast roads. In the afternoon we'll reach the dramatic Drakensberg. Mountain roads take us to Didima mountain resort where we'll stay for two nights.
DRAKENSBERG BY FOOT (0 KM)The highlight of the day will be the walk up to the caves with the famous khoisan rock-art, legacy of Southern Africa's first inhabitants. Time for walks in the mountains on your own. .
DRAKENSBERG - SANI PASS (230 KM)After breakfast weave our way along country roads and mountain passes through the Drakensberg and isolated Sotho villages. We stay in Sani-village. Those who wish to test themselves can go to the top of the Sani-pass just inside Lesotho, highest pass in southern Africa. Same way back to the hotel and a good meal.
SANI - THE WILD COAST (370 KM)A vast, open landscape dotted with small, round african huts. Far from tourism and still one of the country's poorest areas. Curvy roads take us down to the spectacular Wild Coast, where we stay right at the beach in a comfortable hotel.
THE WILD COAST - BISHO (250 KM)A day in the sign of Nelson Mandela. Here, in the most "African" part of South Africa we will visit the village where he spent his childhood. In the black Bisho township we will attend an African church service, a not-to-miss experience. We end the day in a hotel run by a charismatic black woman.
BISHO - ADDO NATIONAL PARK (250 KM)A short ride brings us to Addo National Park, famous for elephants. We shall stay in huts close to the park and have very good possibilities for seeing elephants and other big African animals on our safari in the national park.
ADDO NATIONAL PARK (0 KM)Relax by the pool, enjoy the fine weather, go on a game drive with a ranger to see the wild life. Addo has all the big five and in particular a famous herd of elephants. We stay in luxury cabins.
GARDEN ROUTE: ADDO - TSITISKAMMA (275 KM)The famous Garden ropute. All day the road follows the green lush Indian Ocean coast. Lunch in JCape Sct. Francis, a surfers' paradise. We end the day in the Tsitsikamma national park home to some of the world's largest trees. We stay in the park's nice cabins right at the Indian Ocean.
TSITSIKAMMA - PRINCE ALBERT (275 KM)Great views from the 2000m high Groot Swartberge. Beyond the Meiringspoort-pass the landscape changes to the bone dry Karoo. We end the day in the charming small-town Prince Albert, where we will stay at Swartberg Hotel, the second oldest hotel in South Africa.
PRINCE ALBERT - MONTAGU (270 KM)South Africa have no Route 66, but a Route 62, a beautiful mountain road passing winefields, fruit-farms and ostrich-farms. The highlight of the day will be the world-famous Cango Caves. We will spend the night at a fruit-farm in comfartable former farm-hand houses.
WHALES AND WINE: MONTAGU - STELLENBOSCH (300 KM)Whales and wine will make this day one of the highlights of the tour. At this time of the year whales congregate at the coast just off Hermanus. From the cliffs we can enjoy the sight of the magnificient animals. In the afternoon we reach South Africa's oldest and most famous wine districts around the towns of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. We stay at an old wine farm savouring the food and wine.
STELLENBOSCH - CAPE OF GOOD HOPE - CAPE TOWN (175 KM)Visit to one of Stellenbosch' oldest winefarms. Afternoon ride to Cape of Good Hope where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Great entry to Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain. Good bye to the motorcycles. We celebrate completion of the tour with a Cape-Malay dinner. We stay two nights at a convenient hotel in the famous Waterfront.
CAPE TOWN - REST DAY (0 KM)Excursion to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Free afternoon. Fx. go to the great souvenir and antiques-market at Greenmarket Square. In the evening we will find a special music-venue to enjoy the vibrant jazz of South Africa.
CAPE TOWN - DEPARTURE 17:00Time to experience Cape Town's townships on a very moving tour. Tranfer to airport. Change plane in Johannesburg.
